BAMM Q&A
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How much does it cost to participate in BAMM supported by OMM 2025?
BAMM supported by OMM 30, 50 & 70 km costs 2500 SEK per team, including timing chip (SI card).
What happens if we have to cancel the race?
If we are forced to cancel this year’s event, we will offer the following options:
-
Transfer your entry to the following year
-
A voucher for accommodation at our facilities in Björkliden & Riksgränsen
-
A refund minus an administrative fee of 100 SEK
Can anyone complete BAMM?
No. For BAMM 30, you should be able to hike 30 km in the mountains over two days, within a total of 16 hours. BAMM 50 and 70 require higher levels of fitness and experience. Read more [here].
What is the map scale?
1:50,000 — meaning 2 cm on the map equals 1 km in reality.
What is contour interval?
Contour interval is the height difference between two contour lines on the map. On the BAMM map, this is 20 meters.
Does mobile phone coverage work during BAMM?
Yes and no. Coverage is poor in the race area, and some areas have no coverage at all. As a rule of thumb, the higher up you are and the closer to the E10 road and Björkliden/Riksgränsen, the better the signal.
Can I use GPS for navigation?
No. This is an orienteering competition. GPS devices for tracking may be carried in your backpack and used only in emergencies.
Does the tent need to have a floor?
Yes.
Is there drinking water along the course?
Yes. There is usually plenty of water available. Try to use flowing water.
Can there be snow?
Yes. Courses may cross snowfields and glaciers, and fresh snow can also occur.
Can I leave part of my gear along the course if it suits my route choice?
No. All gear must be carried the entire way.
Can BAMM 30 teams send food with their gear to the overnight camp?
No. Only sleeping bags and tents may be transported.
How much does the backpack usually weigh?
Between 4–8 kg.
Can I bring a dog?
No.
Can I leave trash at the overnight camp?
No. Nothing may be left along the course. All gear and waste must be carried to the finish, where it will be checked during the gear inspection.
Are there toilets at the overnight camp?
Yes. There are toilet tents with toilet paper.
What happens if a control is missed or punched incorrectly?
You will be disqualified unless you can prove that you were at the control. If a control unit is malfunctioning, you may use the manual punch on your map.
Do I need money during the race?
No. But it’s a good idea to carry 200 SEK in a waterproof bag in case you need to withdraw from the race and hike out to a road.
What kind of shoes are suitable?
Rock surfaces can be very slippery when wet, and glaciers or snowfields are also slippery. We recommend shoes with aggressive tread or studs.
Do I need mosquito repellent?
It can be useful at the overnight camp, depending on weather conditions.
